Everyday is Market Day in The Adventure Capitol of Belize

You can always find fresh fruits, foods, clothing and lots more from street side vendors right outside Hotel Mallorca's front door. Down by the Macal River is the main Market Square just a few blocks away from our front door.

There are numerous places to eat good foods, like Ko-ox Han-nah, which always has good meals for reasonable prices (and the best salads in town!), is located just diagonally across from Hotel Mallorca. There are many small snack shacks and push carts selling local Panedes, Salbutes, Tacos, BBQ, and more. A good fast Belizean style food snack shack is located directly across from Hotel Mallorca, next to an Icream shack. Some longstanding places, like Flayva's Restaurant (located where Eva's used to be) is a must, since adventure travelers frequent there, and it is the best place to gather travel information. Their food is always good and they have Internet access.

Other favorite spots for food include Pops for breakfast, with excellent inexpensive food and a great bottomless cup of Guatemalan coffee! Also check out Yoli's Pizza, SerenDib (Sri Lankan style Indian food), Erva’s, South Indian Restaurant, Hodes, Firenza (good wood fired bake oven pizza and Italian food), Mr Greedys TooSteph's mek mi plate diner (good Belizean style dinner plates) and an assortment of Chinese restaurants including Maxims and Tai San.

There are plenty of Internet places all over town, with current rates running about $5bz hour. Ko-ox Han-nah has a connection for your laptop at some of their tables.

Down by the main market square, good local food can be found at several places, like Mom's Place (say hello to Lucy!) and several vendors inside the main market have excellent food, especially Merriam and her sister Myrna who make and sell delicious tacos and fresh orange, lime, soursop and orchata juices in the market. They are located about 4-5 rows back in the middle of market, under a tarp. This is where we'll stock up on food before heading out for a day's adventures, or anytime we're just really hungry for good food.

There are several bakeries in the area. Many street vendors have local food at their push carts from tacos, BBQ, rice and beans, fresh fruits, and snacks available. But go find Merriam or Myrna, and get a few of their tacos during the morning and early afternoon. Then hop a bus to wherever you need to go, or travel too, and enjoy the good eats! They are the best kept secret food place in San Ignacio! (and go early, or they may already be sold out for the day). Yum Yum!

For your nights out, there are many nightclubs, such as Fayawata, Blue Angels, Flayva's, Orleanito's, McGreedy's (happy hour is great here as well), and the Piache Bar, PitPan, Champions and Hodes.

For those who like to gamble, take the road next to the Police station up to the top of the hill to the Princess Casino, on the road to Benque.
